With long term targets and objectives set forth by senior operations leadership, the Area Director of Operations participates in the development of the strategy to effectively manage and grow field operations. Oversees the implementation and management of operations and the fulfillment of durable medical orders, warehouse and inventory management and labor for multiple (4 or greater) geographically disperse field locations.

Responsibilities include all or most of the following:

  • Develops and implements the area operations roadmap, local policies and procedures in accordance with organizational guidance. Regularly review performance metrics and key performance indicators to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of field locations within a respective area of responsibility. Adjusts activities as necessary to address performance deficits.
  • Oversees the recruitment, selection, employee orientation, training, coaching and management for multiple field locations. Ensures that employee actions are implemented in a manner that embraces the organization’s values of compassion, service, integrity, innovation and growth.
  • Maintains oversight for operations within a respective area to ensure that office and warehouse procedures and controls are aligned with Company standards as well as federal, state and CHAP regulations and guidelines. This includes but is not limited to safety standards, inventory control, equipment handling and warehouse conditions.
  • Oversees and guides the preparation and adherence to the area budget and individual site budgets for locations within the respective area of responsibility. Regularly reviews reports and operational metrics to monitor site operations and financials. Redirects activities where necessary to achieve budgetary and operational targets.
  • Ensures service targets are met for those locations within the respective area of responsibility. Monitors performance levels and coaches site leadership where necessary to adjust activities and improve performance. Takes an active role in the site performance management when necessary.
  • Responds to highly sensitive, escalated service related issues and challenges from patients, hospices and others. Identifies root causes and resolves issues to ensure relationships and service integrity are maintained while implementing win-win outcomes.
  • Assists site managers with their approach to maintain and promote a positive presence in the local market(s).
  • Assists senior leadership with the identification, design and implementation of key operational initiatives that may include but are not limited to field locations, customer service and/or fleet management.
  • Assists senior leadership in developing, interpreting and implementing new polices as requested or appropriate.

Marginal or Additional Functions:

  • Assists leadership with merger and acquisition activities as well as new site openings to promote smooth operations.
  • This role will act as or participate in the oversight of operations and delivery of service in the absence of a top operations leader.
  • Performs additional duties as requested or assigned.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the role include the following:

Education, Work Experience or Related Experience:

  • Knowledge of general business management as normally obtained by the completion of a Bachelor’s degree in business or a closely related field of study
  • The ability oversee the management of field operations as normally obtained through 7 years of related progressively responsible experience. This includes experience with oversight for multi-faceted operations
  • A minimum of 5 years of managerial experience is required. Experience in which the incumbent has mentored or provided oversight to other leaders is strongly preferred
  • Experience with full P&L responsibility is required
  • Experience in the healthcare or medical fields in which incumbents have worked with durable medical equipment is preferred

Specialized Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • An awareness of trends and developments in the health and medical service industries and the ability to consider those present and future relationships to the organization
  • A strong understanding and knowledge of commonly used business management concepts and practices; the ability to develop tactical operational plans to implement strategic initiatives aligned with long-term objectives
  • Strong leadership skills are essential as is the ability to accomplish goals through others. A collaborative approach to organizational management is essential
  • A demonstrated ability to resolve process/systems issues through the identification and analysis of problems from root cause to execution of resolution. Experience implementing and institutionalizing operational initiatives is required
  • Strong leadership, analytical, presentation and interpersonal skills are required to perform the functions as described. Incumbents must have the ability to navigate political arenas with ease as well as influence, persuade and negotiate with others while professionally representing the organization
  • The ability to present information and communicate to all levels and externally to vendors, clients and customers is essential
  • A knowledge and understanding of regulatory requirements in the healthcare industry, to include CHAP and HIPPA is strongly preferred

Equipment & Software:

  • Working knowledge of a PC, business and communications software (MS Office) and web-based tools are required

Physical Requirements and Demands:

  • This position primarily entails work performed in an office environment requiring the ability to operate basic office equipment.
